"Goblins are part of some of the oldest and strangest beliefs in our culture. They are said to hide objects, roam through houses at night, and linger near certain places without ever revealing…
My name is Benjamin, and my story takes place a few days after I turned fourteen.
There are things I no longer remember very well because a lot of time has passed, especially details about the house, dates, things like that.
In fact, for many years, I preferred not to even talk about this because I know how it sounds.
If someone had told me something like this before I lived it, I probably would have asked them what they were smoking.
But behind the houses, a zone with many trees began, and beyond that, there was nothing.
We weren't isolated, and I'm not talking about a forest like something out of a movie.
During the day, there was nothing special about it, just a rather uneventful neighborhood.
At night, it was different because practically after the first trees, you could no longer make out anything at all.
From the time we moved into that house, things began happening that my mom attributed to goblins.
She didn't necessarily say everything was true, but she didn't mock it either, not even the craziest stories.
So when things started disappearing in the house, she was the first to say there was probably a goblin around since we lived so close to the forest.
We would lose things, keys, a shoe, the TV remote, something my dad needed to go to work.
I especially remember the mornings because sometimes my dad was already desperate searching for something, and my mom would say, "Ask for it back." My dad would ask who to ask.
