**Why does it sometimes look like people can disobey God and still succeed?** In Numbers 20, Moses directly disobeyed God. He struck the rock instead of speaking to it. Yet something surprising…
A number of years ago, we had a man in our fellowship who was pastoring, but it was very clear that he lacked character.
In many ways, he did not have good character, and yet he was experiencing great revival, many powerful conversions.
The church was growing rapidly.
And then it came out, he was exposed.
He was immoral.
He had been living unclean for quite some time.
And I remember at the time, This caused many difficult conversations, and I'm talking now about among fellow pastors, because there were two sides that this just hurt people's head.
The first question that they were asking is, how? How could he be so blessed when he was involved in sin? And then, of course, the second side of that is, why hasn't God blessed me? I'm not immoral.
I'm doing right.
Come on, God, what is the deal? So, of course, it messed with people's heads.
Does it really matter if you do right? Because apparently it didn't with that man.
Those are deep questions.
He does wrong, but the wrong action still caused miracle water to flow.
This is one of the great challenges of life that you're going to have to deal with at some point in your life when wrong works right.
And that's what I want to preach about, when wrong works right.
Thus shall you bring... water for them out of the rock and give drink to the congregation and their animals.
Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, Here now, you rebels, must we bring water for you out of this rock? Right there's a frustrated pastor.
I've known this guy.
Don't ask me how I know, but I know this guy.
Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod.
