Parsha Shlach: Braving the Unknown

Let's really walk through what happens in Parashat Shlach.

Okay, so Bnei Israel are standing at a huge moment.

They're finally close to entering the land of Israel, the goal they've been working towards since they leaving Egypt.

And Moshe sends 12 spies, not because God tell him.

It's because the people ask.

They want reassurance.

Already, that tells us something.

They unsure, they're nervous.

They want something else to confirm that they are capable.

Mm-hmm.

So the spies go for 40 days.

They see a strong land full of potential.

They even bring back fruits, huge fruits, to show how incredible it is.

But when they return, everything falls apart.

10 spies focus on what scares them, the strength of the people, the fortified cities, the unknown.

And two spies, Yehoshua and Kalev, don't deny the challenges.

They just refuse to let fear define the story.

For me, the most powerful moment isn't even the punishment.

It's the sentence, "We were like grasshoppers in our own eyes."

Because that sentence explains everything.

The people in the land didn't call them small.

They called themselves small.

And that's such a human thing.

We often decide who we are before anyone else does.

Once you see yourself as small, every challenge looks like a giant.
