**Not every setback ruins the story. Sometimes the setback becomes the story.** We were in Greece enjoying a day at the beach when Reagan stepped on a sea urchin. Just like that, beach time was…
There were naked people at the beach, which definitely got the kids' attention, and then Reagan stepped on a sea urchin.
She had quills in her foot, and we needed to figure out how to get them out, so we left and started looking for a pharmacy.
We explained to the pharmacist what happened, and they told us that we really should take her to the hospital and have them removed there.
Well, honestly, we didn't want to turn the whole day into a hospital visit if we could safely handle it ourself, and it didn't seem that significant of an emergency, so after some back and forth, the pharmacy gave us what we needed, including a hypodermic needle, and that became our afternoon.
We were carefully working on Reagan's foot, trying to get sea urchin quills out.
The good news was Reagan was okay, and we got the quills out, and then we had a choice.
The kids got back in the water, they played, they had fun, and the day kept going.
She can say, "I stepped on a sea urchin in Greece." That's a pretty good story.
We have an idea of how something is supposed to go, the trip, the weekend, the project, the relationship, the career, the day, and then something happens that wasn't in the plan, and at first, all we see is the inconvenience, the delay, the frustration, the setback.
