The fix for the weak chin. 7/25/26 WOR Show.

All right.

So how many of you have heard the phrase, well, she has a weak chin or he has a weak chin? That really says it all.

So what? They have a weak chin.

But what does that mean? You have a weak chin.

Well, a weak chin means you have a small chin and really from the profile.

it means that your chin is set back a little further than what society considers to be normal.

What is normal? Normal is the average of everybody, right? And we make these determinations in plastic surgery by doing things like, well, we'll put an ad in a college newspaper and we'll ask for 100 women to come in and we'll take their photographs and then we'll measure the chin and we will correlate that with what other independent examiners think is beautiful so what's beautiful to one person might not be beautiful to another person so some people may like a small chin but if you think about it in society Our political leaders, well, they all have pretty prominent chins, whether they're men or women.

And our actors and actresses, they all have pretty prominent chins.

So I'd be hard-pressed actually to find someone with a small chin on television.

so given that our society has something about a prominent chin that that we feel maybe portrays dominance or or importance isn't that weird how we do that but but you know it's really true so the weak chin where the lower jaw slopes back toward the neck it can deeply affect self-esteem because not because of anything inherent in the chin but because that is what society thinks you should have you should have a powerful chin all these these words that are associated with a strong chin confidence and power but people with small chins or recessed chins well they battle self-consciousness social anxiety, and they even avoid facial photos, particularly profiles.

It's so interesting.

So what happens? They come to me as a plastic surgeon, and one of the biggest bang for your buck procedures in all of cosmetic surgery is a chin augmentation.

There's a few different ways we can do it.

If you're unsure whether or not you want to go through a surgical procedure, well, I can inject filler.

And there are a few different fillers that are really good for chin augmentations.

One is called Radiesse, calcium hydroxyl apatite.

and I inject it right on top of the bone.

And the interesting thing about Radiesse is when we touch bone with it, some of that material actually becomes bone.

So even though it's an injectable in the office, we can actually have some degree of permanence when we inject Radiesse into the chin.

The other ones that are injected into the chin are things like Voluma, that's a Juvederm product, And Restylane, it's Restylane Lift.

That's obviously a Restylane product.

So there's different companies that make these different fillers.

Now, they have to be very thick fillers.

Those of you who are physicists out there, the word is G prime, the viscosity of the material.

It has to be very thick because the thin stuff like maple syrup, well, we put that in fine wrinkles and And that's good because it's really close to the skin and it does a great job filling fine wrinkles.
