But if you think about it, this operation has been done in the United States since 1962.

Now, in the first few years, there were only 10 or 20,000 people that had these operations, but then it really took off by the end of the 1960s, and by the 1970s, hundreds of thousands of people were having breast augmentations each year.

We're not going to get into the exact issues on today's show, but the implants have gone through all sorts of generations.

You know, the thin-walled implants that all ruptured and the thick-walled implants that were, They didn't rupture as well, but they were hard.

And then the polyurethane implants and the saline implants and the form stable implants, which are called the gummy bear implants and all these different types of implants we've gone through since 1962. and you know there's no real good number about about as to how many women have implants in now but I kinda did some rough math and I figure there's somewhere in the area of about twelve to thirteen million women in the United States that have had breast augmentations now a lot of those women in the early nineteen sixties and seventies are no longer alive but you gotta figure if a third of those women are alive, we're still talking about eight million women with implants in the United States.

There's a lot to be said about breast augmentations, but what happens is most people are pretty happy in the beginning.

Their breast implants are intact, their breasts look good, they were placed appropriately by the plastic surgeon, but over time Things begin to deteriorate.

And some people have had symptoms of various illnesses and blame those illnesses on breast implants.

There's not a lot of evidence that implants cause disease, but there's enough people out there that think they do.

asking to remove your breast implants for one reason or another, whether it didn't look good, whether the implant was ruptured, whether they had some sort of illness, and it becomes a very complex discussion.
