Episode 513: LUGANO Phase 3 Trial Results Discussion with Drs. Mohsin Ali and Katherine Talcott

So I think the, since we recorded last, I think the most topical thing that has been discussed in the retina space, at least the United States, has been the Lugano trial.

So this is just based on a press release and I'll start with the disclosure.

You know, I think obviously anytime drug news comes out or trial news comes out, it is a hot button topic.

We're gonna focus on what's important for retina doctors, patient care, outcomes, what this means for our field.

There may be people listening or people interested in things that I'm not as interested in.

You know, what this means for the future of a company, a stock price, things like that.

That's not as relevant here.

I will state I have a disclosure.

I have consulted for both Ocular Therapeutics and iPoint in the last 12 months.

They're obviously the two biggest companies in our field looking at tyrosine kinase inhibitors.

They both have a vested interest.

in the results of a trial like this.

And I hope that I've come across as transparent and non-biased.

I'm just going to try to give honest opinions here, but also analysis.

I think it's an important topic to discuss.

So let me just summarize.

This is from a press release from iPoint, and this was published in Ophthalmology Times.

They added it at the end.

DuraView in the phase three Lugano trial they announced on August 17th, 2026, did not meet its primary efficacy endpoint.

That primary endpoint was non-inferiority to a flibrocept.

And this is only one of two phase three trials.

Lucia, Lucia will have results announced in the fourth quarter of 2026, and that's still pending.

So as a reminder, Lugano was a randomized double-masked, a flibrocept-controlled non-inferiority study.

It was identically designed to Lucia.
