Episode 27 - "Celebrating the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2026 Inductees"

And Mike is joining us in his role as the president of the board of directors for the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame.

And our goal on today's episode is to walk through the class of 2026, a very distinguished group of inductees.

And we're going to do that once we get into it.

in chronological order by decade.

But before we start tackling that, Mike, can you give our viewers and listeners a preview of the banquet, some of the details associated for those basketball fans around the state who may want to attend that banquet? I know you have a reception the night before, tours of the Hall of Fame at the Pentagon.

Do you want to get into that a little bit, Mike? Sure.

Thanks for letting

me do that.

Yeah, this will be our 16th banquet, actually our 17th year of being a Hall of Fame, Todd and Nate, and we didn't have one during the COVID year, so we skipped that one, but this is 2026.

Our first one was 2010, and so we're really looking forward to this year's group.

It's, as you said, it's a very distinguished group, and we'll get into some of those names, but it's really... been a lot of fun for me to be part of this board.

I didn't start out being part of the board, but I was part of getting the Hall of Fame connected to the Pentagon.

When I was working, we had an opportunity to work with Myron Moan, who actually established the High School Hall of Fame.

And so he consented to kind of work with myself and some other team members.

Steve Young, Kelby Kravinoff was part of that during that time.

And I solicited some names of coaches and officials and basketball folks to kind of come and join us for a meeting and just to kind of brainstorm as to what this Hall of Fame might look like.

And it was at that time it was being housed in Madison, South Dakota, in kind of a little tiny building.

I don't want to get too up.

It was a great start, but it was really good to have a place and a home to recognize the individuals that have been you know, part of the legacy of South Dakota high school basketball, both men and women.

And we've been very proud of the fact that we can go through every year.

And in the selection process, I'm not on the selection committee, but we've got a group of folks that are on there.

Robin Lackin, Bill Marquardt, Lemoine Torgerson, all those guys that have been part of that.

Matt Martin is now on the board.

Sam Goodhope.

We've just got a great group of guys.
