I would like to thank Dr Emma Stokes, Vice President of Global Engagement, Trinity College Dublin, Coordinator of the Higher Education Institutions, Secretary Group and Chair of the Network which supports students from Gaza who have come to study at universities throughout Ireland.
Indeed, since 2004, the higher education institutes have collectively welcomed nearly 90 students and scholars evacuated from Gaza.
And since August, September 25 alone, over 70 students arrived in Ireland.
These evacuations were facilitated through a coordinated sector-wide effort involving multiple higher education institutions, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and with the latter overseeing the logistical arrangements for evacuation to Ireland.
And indeed, I want to openly acknowledge all of that hard work and the coordinated effort that has seen students here in Áras an Uachtaráin.
As I said, I know you've travelled from over 12 universities where you have enrolled, and I also understand, which is a very welcome development, that an additional number of institutions will come on board in the near future.
