Trauma Is Not An Excuse
Good intentions cannot erase the hurt caused
Natasha BazilevichHostIf you are confronting someone, why are you actually doing this? So first of all, even just think, what is your why? What is your reason? What's your purpose of all of this? Do you just want to argue with them? Do you just want to prove them wrong? Do you want to put them down? Do you want to feel better about yourself? Or do you want to really save the relationship? Do you want to help them? Do you want to maybe show them, explain something and really...
If this is your goal, if you want this for the best of the relationship, then you should start with that.
Because a lot of times why confrontations really go sideways is if the other person braces for their attack.
If you start with something that sounds like an attack, with something that sounds like a confrontation or a criticism or something, anything like that, then the person will brace and they will not even listen to you.
Maybe they will get a fear of rejection or abandonment or anything like that.
And so that's why if you want them to really... be open to the conversation, if you want this conversation to go well, then you should start, you should open with something like, hey, you know, I'm bringing this up because I want us to be okay, I want our relationship to go well, or I don't want anything negative in our family, or I don't want, like, when we see each other next time during holidays, let's say this is some kind of a family member that maybe you only see on holidays, and you tell them, Well, you know, when we see each other next, I just hope that there's nothing wrong between us.
And so I want to clarify, clear the waters or whatever the phrase is between us.
So just you start with that, you start with this purpose, with this why, why you even want to talk about this and then help them understand that you don't want to just argue and you don't want to just prove yourself right and them wrong, but you want to save the relationship.
