Send us Fan Mail You can build a life you’re proud of, heal old wounds, and learn to trust your intuition… then walk into a family conversation and…
Your family may continue to relate to the version of you who always said yes, the version of you who kept the peace, who never spoke up, the version who accepted criticism without responding, the version who took responsibility for everyone's feelings, the version of you who stayed available no matter how exhausted, overwhelmed, or emotionally depleted you are.
You may have changed that the family system may still expect you to fulfill your old role.
That role may have been the caretaker, the fixer, the responsible one, the quiet one, the successful one, the peacemaker, the emotional container, or the person who never needed anything.
Not necessarily because your growth is wrong, but because your growth changes the relationship.
If you stop fixing everyone's problems, someone else may have to take responsibility.
If you stop keeping the peace, unresolved conflict may become visible, and it does.
If you stop overgiving, someone may no longer receive unlimited access to your time and energy.
If you begin speaking honestly, the family can no longer pretend that everything is fine.
Why are you making such a big deal out of everything? Those comments can make you question yourself, but sometimes you have changed simply means you're no longer participating in the pattern that made me uncomfortable, right? You're not participating in that pattern.
You're allowed to grow beyond the role you were given and you are allowed to become someone your family has not met before.
