He Built a 14-Foot AeroScout From Home Depot Foam - Chris Randall

So, uh, it turns out one of our kids at our club, at our airfield, was really into flying the Aero Scout.

He was like, his favorite plane of all time.

And I, I came up with the idea, well, what if we came up with a project to make a giant Aero Scout, uh, as card- as part of a, a thing to do with the kids? Well, it turns out the kids are more interested in flying than actually building.

Um, so I kind of took on the role of building the entire thing myself.

Um, but the great thing is our airfield has a 20 by 20 garage that we call our hangar-

Oh, wow

... which is the space that I could use to build the entire thing.

Um, and then just once I got the concept, it was like, okay, how build, how big do I build it, right? Um-

How big is it?

Then l- So it's got a 14-foot wingspan.

Wow.

[laughs]

Um, yeah.

That is big.

So essentially I, I looked at the sheets of pink Home Depot foam that you can buy.

They come in four feet by eight feet sheets.

So I figured if I used two of those sheets for the wings, that would be si- essentially 16 feet, and then by the time I shaped the wings it was, it came out to be about 14 feet.

That is a big-

Yeah, and, uh, and, and each one of those sheets is about two inches thick-

Mm-hmm

...

so I had to double them up to create the airfoil shape of the wing.

Yeah.
