The reason why is that you kind of start to realize is that these trees make sense of photosynthesis by reaching as much up and providing as much surface area as possible.
as close to the sun as it possibly can, which causes the lower branches and needles to fall away, bringing this conical shape up.
It is less efficient of a way, but they have managed to survive anyway.
