So Kat, as you're starting to play violin at age 10, do you feel a connection to your mom? Oh, yeah.

Absolutely.

Did you know what kind of music she played? How did that manifest with your music?

I don't want to say that being a violinist wasn't a choice.

It was just something that I always knew I was going to do.

And even from such a young age, I never considered being anything else.

I was always just like, oh, this is what I was meant to be doing.

And...

It made me feel connected to her.

But I think even more than that, it made me feel connected to my dad.

I could sense when he watched me play, he was seeing her.

Wow.

Did that feel like pressure or it just felt good?

Does that feel like a heavy cross to bear? Um...

Maybe like looking back, but as a kid, not so much.
