Mike Scott (The Waterboys) interview – 'Simple Minds and U2 copped stuff from The Waterboys - especially U2'

There's no doubt this episode is perhaps the most personal of the series so far.

As you'll know, everyone has a band who soundtrack their life, and to me, that's The Waterboys.

I remember hearing Pagan Place in my dad's car on the cusp of the miners' strike, and the...

when I first heard this song, I was absolutely astounded with the noise that came out the speakers.

It was, it was this relentless call to arms.

And after that came This Is the Sea, which again, just totally blew me away.

I thought it was a beautiful album.

They, obviously they've picked the classic track, The Whole of the Moon, but then you've got This Is the Sea itself, The Pan Within, and my personal favorite, Old England.

Then came Fisherman's Blues, a complete left-field turn for the band.

They were like the part of this big music, you know, with Simple Minds, Big Country, U2, The Alarm, et cetera.

And to me, the, the, the turn they made with that album was just, again, just quite astounding.

You then had Room to Roam, which is again, a great album, that b- that great McCartney-esque song, A Man is in Love.

And then even, I've even got a soft spot for Dream Harder.

You know, the Glastonbury song.

So yeah, it's a real delight to welcome Mike Scott to ScotPop.
