In this episode Tiffany is joined by Angus Elder from Chapel Organics, to discuss his business, which is built around the production of high-quality vegetables. Angus discusses his crop rotation…
So our two years grass, we kind of have two rotations, one for the kind of lighter land and one for the not so light land.
So that would be carrots, parsnips, Onions, leeks, beetroot, red cabbage, white cabbage, and then your leafy cabbages, your salvo and janking, and a very little bit of kale.
That is for the wholesale and bulk scheme market, which we kind of just fell into over time.
the supermarket it's kind of a contract somewhat maybe maybe a quarter of it's contracted and then the rest is all free by or we bag it ourselves for the kind of wholesale veg market as well um and then we also have at the end of our rotation we probably do a cereal it would usually be spring barley in the past it was spring barley beans spring oats uh we've grown a lot less beans recently um just issues with um weeds mainly um taking over um so oats has become a bigger a bigger part of that now so and then we're about to start again so yeah good range good range
And then we just recently picked up another couple of wee bits, a bit in the borders actually, near Folden, which is just in conversion to organic now.
