S4E2(G): Expensive Athletes; Revisiting the NIL Landscape with Jaime Zaninovich and Charles Hoeveler

Beautiful.

Okay, Duffy, we're, we're reintroducing one of our favorite segments, The Dime, where Duffy or I will just give you some, some advice.

We're dropping you a dime, and you have a great one on a book that you have uncovered, which I'm excited to read, but tell us about it, Duff.

Okay.

Yeah.

Let me jump in.

Thank you for giving me the dime to pass along a dime right back to you, like we're just, we're-

Give and go

... blistering, blistering passes back and forth to each other.

Anyway, Dave, so this is a dime.

Actually a friend of mine from my medical world, uh, Devin Tsai, shout out to Devin, he recommended this book.

His, he has a daughter who's big into the club scene basketball and has played for KK.

But anyway, I digress.

The, the book is called Expensive Basketball, and right off the bat, I'm going to say this is a dime.

I've listened to the audiobook.

Uh, it's probably a good read, but if you have a chance to listen to the audiobook, that's what I'd recommend.

The whole pretense here is the, the book is by Shea Serrano, uh, it was published in 2025, and it's a, a love of the game.

And even though the title's Expensive Basketball, the expensive is really an ana- analogy for basketball that is done at the highest level.

You know, basketball that you watch and you're like, "Man, I would pay a lot-"

Right

... "to see that basketball."

Right.

And it's NBA, and each chapter has a different topic.

There are chapters that are on teams, there are chapters that are on great games, and there are chapters that are on great players.

And it is full of metaphors.
