C is for Confidence... but no one teaches us how hard it is to maintain it when social media and external validation enter the chat. In this episode of ROOH, Monica and I talk about the pressure to…
Oh, yeah, definitely.
I think words of encouragement sometimes, praise.
Not all the time, but I think I'll notice when maybe things that I do or have done go unnoticed or comments aren't made to just encourage you.
right? To pick, oh, good job, or you did great, or here's something that I like about you, or vice versa.
And I think you don't realize it that you seek that until you don't really get it, possibly.
And I wonder if sometimes, without even thinking about it subconsciously, a lot of our actions are to get that praise or to seek that validation, to please others.
So if we're doing something it might be obviously from your kind heart that, oh, this person likes this or, you know, that's the nice thing to do.
Let me do this for someone who'll make their day better.
But I wonder, like, there's this force that's like, oh, you know, I don't want them to think bad about me or I need to be in, I guess I need this person to think of me in a certain light.
And that goes in a lot of actions, like not just people pleasing, but I wonder sometimes if it's like, The things you purchase, the way you speak, the way you act, the things you do, you know, it's a lot.
Yeah.
The reason I was thinking about this is because all of a sudden, like, I realized that decisions that I used to make very easily...
Mm-hmm.
They're just not easy for me anymore.
And it's so weird because normally they say the older you get, the less you care about other people.
And like the more you kind of come to your own and you just kind of like, okay, you know, like you're a little bit more self-assured.
But
I find that I was more self-assured before, which is so weird.
Like I was thinking about it and I'm like, you know, I used to, I love just wearing like whatever I, you know, like...
For example, like I think I was in middle school and my favorite pair of like pants were like these baggy like red jeans.
And I was like the only one who had them in the whole school probably.
And I just like, but I loved them.
And I was like, you know, like I didn't care like whether I looked cool or not.
I just thought I looked cool.
I don't know.
