Ever feel like a friend breakup hurt just as much as a romantic one—or maybe even more? In this episode, we open up about a platonic friendship that quietly faded out, the deep grief that came with…
So I'm going to get really vulnerable here and talk about an experience in my life that had a huge effect on me.
And it's taken me several years to come to terms with it.
And it's something that we don't often talk about, which is a breakup.
Not necessarily a romantic breakup, but, you know, what happens when you have a platonic breakup? Loss of a friendship, basically.
So in this case, this was someone who is very near and dear to me, a family member that I had actually arranged.
Yeah.
So I'm Jyoti the matchmaker here as well.
My one and only match that I made.
Anyway, so this was a family member who married my husband's best friend at the time.
And we were very close.
It's great when you have so much in common and then your family you're also friends and you're hanging out and everything's great and a lot of times I feel like we tend to especially Desis our friends become our family and I feel like it's icing on the cake when it's the other way around when your family is also your friend.
So I feel like we kind of had the best of both worlds.
And then all of a sudden we didn't.
And it was very interesting because I never understood that, I guess, things were deteriorating in the relationship.
We were inseparable and all of a sudden our invitations that we were sending out were getting declined and it didn't really register.
I just kept thinking, OK, they must be busy.
So all the little casual invitations that were being sent out, they're getting declined.
And, you know, we think nothing of it until there was a very intimate family dinner planned.
And then this couple didn't show up to the dinner.
And that's when I think we realized for the first time, like, wait, what's going on here? Something is not right.
This is a dinner that they should have absolutely 1000% shown up to.
So for us, it seemed like no matter what excuse you could come up with, it just couldn't justify like missing this very special, intimate dinner.
And so that's when we realized, OK, there is some sort of an issue here.
And we didn't really get a direct answer as to what had happened.
I think it took a while like for us to even question it and to just kind of we just remained in the dark.
