Welcome back to ReWire Your Weight! In today’s episode, Rachel Foy dives deep into the real reasons behind emotional eating, breaking down the misconception that it’s just one issue. If you’ve ever…
And today I've got a topic that I know will be of relevance to you because [laughs] it always is.
If you're listening to this, and you find yourself maybe more often than you want to acknowledge in a situation where you just can't seem to stop eating, so you know you're not hungry, you know exactly what you're doing, it's like you're watching yourself do it, and no matter what, you just still can't seem to stop, then this conversation is gonna be of interest to you.
[lip smack] Now, generally speaking, what I've just described can often be labeled as emotional eating.
Um, however, I wanna get a bit nuanced in today's episode because actually emotional eating is not really just one thing.
Okay? It's not one pattern, it's not one person, and it's not one reason, and this can be sometimes, what I've seen anyway, one of the reasons why people can feel a little bit stuck, um, in terms of trying to change their behavior because they're looking at this through the lens of, "But there must be one thing, and I, I, I can't kind of get why I can see myself doing it, but I just can't seem to stop." So today I'm gonna introduce to you five different types of emotional eating or emotional eaters, five very specific, very recognizable patterns, and I wanna invite you to just listen and maybe sort of find yourself because the moment that you can name what's actually happening, your brain then becomes open to finding the best solution for you.
So these are five types of emotional eaters that I have seen and identified over the years, and I wanna give you them by name, and with specific characteristics, and with the thing that they all have in common that nobody else tells them.
[lip smack] Okay, are we ready? So the first thing that I wanna say before we get into these five particular types of emotional eater [lip smack] is sometimes the problem with the label of emotional eating can be a little bit challenging because it's too big, and it can also be a little bit vague, right? It tells you the category, but not necessarily the cause, and if you don't know the cause, so the specific function that food is serving for you in your life, in your particular flavor of this, then every solution that you try is gonna be slightly, um, I guess, complicated.
When I talk about emotional eating, my general explanation to what it is, is your brain's trying to help you change how you feel.
