Dakota NicholsGuestAnd I was talking to Dakota before we started this podcast.
And sometimes it just means you have to have a lot of different places that you hunt and you know when to go after a specific buck when.
But it also means that you may not, if your goals are to get a higher level trophy bug than you've ever had before, whatever is a trophy to you, then it may mean that you go a season without tagging a deer or tagging a buck.
And you've got to make that decision.
What's more important to you is your ego and killing something and tagging out more important, or is it getting a bigger trophy or is it as increasing your woodsmanship? Is it all of the above? You know, you've got to make that decision.
I can't make it for you, but I can help you in this podcast is the goal today is to help you understand why I make the decisions on when I go into hunt.
And so Justin's here with us as well.
And he can tell you year after year, season after season, I will text people.
And I usually always start with Justin and he's always busy because it's too short of a notice.
But I'm like at 830 tonight, I will text and be like, hey, can you hunt in the morning? I've done the same thing with Dakota.
Hey, can you hunt in the morning? Can you go in the morning? We need to go and be there in the morning.
And nine times out of 10, Nobody's going to be available on that short of notice, but also nine times out of 10, the buck shows up.
And so why have I been able to dial that in? Well, a lot of it is we have a mentor hunting program here at Revive Outdoors.
So we've done 450 hunts.
I somehow play a part in all of those.
I coach, I teach, I get our guys where they need to be, whether it's on our ministry land that we have access to, or if it's on their own land that they're taking someone to.
I'm trying to do everything I can to help educate them, to help them have success with their mentee, because we want to get them out there.
We want them to experience the harvest in the fullness.
Yes, it's fun to get out there in the woods, but it's really special when you get to harvest the first animal, first deer.
And so I've mentored a lot of these hunts or, you know, played a part in these mentorships and I am trying to do everything I can to maximize the odds.
And so it's everything from putting the wind to your face, entry and exit.
How often have we hunted this spot? Are we trying to leave pressure off of it? You know, are we, you know, thinking outside the box if we have hunted a spot a pretty good bit? So there's a lot that goes into it.
