Julia M. Hayes offers a meditation on cultivating presence by learning to tune our instruments of Peace. A Recovery Dharma Practice. https://www.soulscenter.com
You might be in a mind state and a body state and a psychic state where lying down and resting is what's needed.
If you fall asleep during the meditation, isn't that a wonderful way to practice, to really allow yourself that much relaxation? One of the things that isn't talked about very much in recovery circles is how much the brain needs to rest.
You've heard about intoxicants negatively impacting the brain and its function and so on.
But what we don't talk about is that when we allow the body to go through all of the cycles of sleep, there are four stages of sleep, the, the brain, in fact, the whole body flushes itself.
And in recovery circles, this is really dangerous because the social narrative is a strong one about moral failings and character flaws.
Now throw in needing extra time to rest, and well, sort of proves how, how lackadaisical, lazy, and worthless we can be when, in fact, what we might be doing is honoring the wisdom of the body and the mind and how it knows how to harmonize for our greater good.
