Patrice WashingtonHostSo I want to start this episode really by talking about what keeps you from fully losing yourself when things don't go your way.
When a relationship, a job, a move across the country, out of the country doesn't pan out, how can you still hold space for your vision and believe that you are going to actually get to the thing? One thing I know to be true is that the vision has to be yours.
I've talked about this before at Redefining Wealth Live is where I first introduced this concept of the ignited aligned vision.
Having a vision that moves you so much from the inside out that even when things don't go your way, you are still committed to the vision, not attached
Nothing about what you're experiencing says, oh, I cannot have the thing because that vision is so rooted in you that you know that it's just a matter of time that you will touch it, taste it, see it, hold it, be with it, feel it, all the things.
And before I was asking questions about vision, when I would coach people, I would ask them, what do you want? Just what do you want? Number one, most people couldn't give me a clear statement about what they really wanted.
Could you say what you genuinely wanted without pausing or hesitating? to make sure that it sounded acceptable to others and not even necessarily the person you were speaking to.
But if you thought about your significant other or your children or your parents or someone outside of you, would you be hesitant because you want to make sure that what you want is palatable for others? Most people I have coached usually hesitate at what do you want? Now, that's one side.
The other side, those who don't hesitate, those high achieving people, the ones who know how to intellectualize everything so they have rehearsed this over and over again, they know how to rattle off all the things they want and make it sound so good.
Make it sound good until you ask them how they actually feel in the life that is leading up to what they say they want.
Because whatever you say you want, your current life should be aligned with helping you get there.
If I say I want to run a marathon, the way that I'm spending my days today should be helping me get there.
And then I would say, well, then how much of your current life is actually lining up with that.
Well, why don't you ever have time? Why don't you have the margin to actually invest in the activities, in the relationships, in the calendar appointments that lead you to that life? Because I'm doing, insert all these other things.
And how much of that did you choose? Because why would you say deep down that you know you want this thing and have a life so full of so many calendar invites and conversations and relationships and hobbies and clubs and commitments that have nothing to do with that? I want to submit to you that is because most of the life that we are taught to live was not chosen by us.
