And I think that part of the reason why I was really interested in having this chat and getting into it on the podcast is because I think that with recruitment, even if it's not a recruitment franchise, you know when you really get into it people to talk about like what their short and long-term career goals are um there are a lot of people who aren't even really sure what to do anymore or what's possible for them because it's been such a confusing time of great change from covid to obviously ai coming into the mix and it really drastically changes depending what what age the person is if you're talking to someone who's in gen z they might be super cynical being like, yeah, I'm never going to afford a house anyway.

So I'll do little gigs here and there and just travel and like life's too short.

So there's a weird balance between like the gig economy, the traditional job market, which is obviously still very much the main thing, but shrinking away with all the layoffs.

How do you feel about that? Is that part of the discussions you have with people? And like, what's your feeling on people who are looking for options? Yeah.

Yeah, no, I completely agree with that, that the gig economy definitely affects a lot of things.

know and it's the older generation you know you and i are about 45 years old we it's it's we're at that like we're like right in the middle of that right like the older generation i think they're the ones that are being affected by ai a little bit more with the layoffs but it's it's a perfect time to combat that with with uh business ownership i think i think that's I think it's a great way to transition and to kind of protect yourself from the mass unemployment that's coming is business ownership.

It's really of all ages, but yeah, it's just kind of a strange time with all of that stuff.

And I have to imagine that even before a lot of these issues have happened with the economy and with COVID, the projections of a huge demographic of older individuals who are in the baby boomer generation...

We're going to be aiming at retirement age around 2027 to 2030, like a giant number, an absurd number in the millions of people, which we've never seen that happen before.

This many people reaching retirement age and a lot of them are in rather senior positions.

And the more I talk to people in my job of speaking to business owners and recruitment or whatever, it doesn't seem like there's a lot of really robust succession planning.

So there's also this weird sense that there's going to be a lot of people are being sort of exited even in recruiting companies and others because it doesn't even really make sense to keep these very senior salaried people who aren't affecting bottom line in the minds of consulting firms, right? So there's even a lot of very senior people who aren't at retirement age and or maybe the president of a company who are effectively being phased out.

And I wonder, you know what I mean? I wonder if this is even a solution for them instead of starting somewhere from total scratch.

And that's probably where the vast majority of my clients and candidates come from.

Is that pool of they were exited or they feel like they're going to be shortly, you know, and the skills that they've developed are perfect for business ownership, but their age and that weird gap that kind of fades and makes it really hard to go back in to know the same type of senior uh leadership that they they're they've been used to for the last 10 years or so you know so it's they're not ready to retire you know it's it's hard to go find that next job and be happy with what they find and so i see a lot of people turning to to business ownership because of because of that
