Episode 877 - Slapstick Comedy

We're doing all the stuff with 5G antennas and everything.

And it turns out that most of the stuff, the antennas that we bought are using FirstNet, which we know about FirstNet.

We talked about this when FirstNet was first sold.

The antennas on their actual like frequency response chart, there's a dip.

in their frequency response chart at the same frequencies that FirstNet uses for their 5G service.

So that the antennas are explicitly worse at the frequency that they need.

Yes.

That sounds like a bad idea.

It's one of those things where nobody really looked at it.

They looked at all the pieces.

But not the whole?

Yes.

They put the whole thing together, but then they tested it in Lansing, which is one of the major metropolitan areas.

Which has all the 5G.

Yep.

But when you take it out to the middle of nowhere over by Saginaw and the middle of nowhere in the southwest portion of the state.

Of the state.

5G doesn't

seem to work all that well.

So they actually switched it to running back onto 4G again.

So we're installing 5G antennas but running them with 4G frequencies.

Does that work? Yeah.

I mean, they're broad-spectrum antennas.

So

they're supposed to – because they – if they're built in to basically downgrade to 4G if there's no 5G.
