Send us Fan Mail A special episode as we are joined by Coastal High Race Director, Steve Jackson. We talk through the history of the race, the course…
Tom BattyHostYeah, I mean, I think the one thing about the Volta is really sort of special in terms of the events that we run is the out and back nature of it and the interaction between the athletes.
It's funny, you know, like if you're a mid pack or even if you're at the pointy end, there's often large times where you can be running on your own in smaller regional events like ours.
And I think just that interaction, you know, I think the aspirational part of seeing leaders come past you, seeing your mates, seeing people that you've seen at other events, being able to measure off people like, oh, yeah, I was, you know, this far down before and now I'm only this far.
I think and just the social interaction, just like the support from runners to each other, like makes it really special.
I mean, ideally, you know, like most of us like the point-to-point or loop scenarios as runners, but the out-and-back actually really plays into the social nature, the fabric of the trail running community.
And I think that's the reason why Border Bolts really kicked on in its early years.

Of course, the downside of it is every time you're running downhill on the way out, you realize that you've got to come back up the thing on the way back.
