Because before you can dive into leadership in your practice, in your own team, I think you have to lead yourself first.

And we do not talk about what it means to lead yourself in your own business, in your own practice, and just kind of your own way.

This idea of being a leader to yourself first, and then you can be a leader to other people.

And the reason why leadership really starts with us is because most of us were trained out of it.

So if you think about your earliest memories of childhood and being in school the school system actually rewards following the rules coloring within the lines fitting in belonging was really made conditional to conformity if you can think back to kindergarten or maybe you can go all the way back to preschool or daycare or however you're great your memory actually is or if you have little ones at home and you are preparing them to go to school you really have to realize that we do really reward conformity.

Because we learn that success comes from doing what other people are currently doing or what they've done.

Which really quietly teaches us to mistrust our own leadership or our own intuition or our own thoughts around leadership.

But the leading really is about going first, right? It's about being the guide.

We talked a lot about the actual definition of the word leader and leadership and how it's morphed over time and getting back to the roots of the word, which means to be a guide on someone's journey.

So self-leadership is giving yourself permission where you haven't really given yourself permission before.

And that's about being curious, about going first, about going often, and really about the willingness to try something and to fail.
