Day 7 Review (Paris 2026 Euro Champs)

We start off with the men's 50 meters freestyle.

A surprise winner in this one.

Dan, me and you went through this literally before we went live.

I think Kornev has tired slightly as the meet's gone on.

I think that's affected his 50.

Um, he goes a 21.33, but it's Sheremet from Ukraine who wins in the 21.13, which is a solid, solid time.

Yeah, I mean, I don't think he was favorite to win.

I suppose Kornev would've been, even though Sheremet was the fastest qualifier going in, and I suppose he's backed up the reason why he was the fastest qualifier.

21.1 is actually a really solid swim, and, uh, the stroke rate that he had was literally just [mimicking water splashing] constantly the whole way through.

Um, so yeah, constant paddle, and it was honestly quite interesting to watch.

Like, how does someone get their arms over that quickly, hold that much water, and swim as fast as he does? Honestly amazing, and he was pretty far behind.

Obviously, Kornev had an amazing start, sort of Milak-

Milak's start is outstanding.

Oh, that's amazing, isn't it? So is Kos.

We'll talk about that in swim drive as well.

But, um, yeah, I, I agree.

Uh, we were discussing it before.

Like you said, I think Kornev has kind of hit a wall a little bit.

I mean, 21.3 is still a very good swim, don't get me wrong, but when he's gone 21.0, you're kind of expecting him...

It's a world record on, on the cards here.

21 flat, you know, something around that sort of region.

But- Yeah, 100 frees.

He's done a lot of relays, 50 fly at the very beginning as well.

There's been a sort of a lot of racing for a sprinter of his caliber, I suppose, and it does-- it will take its toll at some point
