There’s something about autumn that makes us want to slow down, get cosy and turn inward. In this episode of Pretty Spiritual, we’re exploring the spiritual meaning of the autumn equinox and why this…
is the moment where the sun is directly above the equator and that creates almost a perfect balance between day and night yeah so autumn equinox is almost the turning point really between summer and autumn it is the official turning point between summer and autumn the transition if you like and it's where we start to see that equal balance between day and night before then obviously the nights start getting longer.
Yeah so it's like the dimmer switch.
Yeah I like that phrase
definitely.
So what would make the autumn equinox different from say other changes of season like spring equinox and summer solstice etc?
i think because things start to change around us quite suddenly so for example the nights start getting darker and longer the mornings start getting darker we start noticing all of the fall colors and the leaves falling from the trees and sometimes it can feel like that switch just happens overnight although there is a gradual shift from summer to autumn I think it just feels like one of the more drastic season changes whereas when we think about spring equinox or summer solstice there's normally more of a gradual kind of less noticeable lead up to those days is what it feels like so by summer solstice you know we're used to kind of the brighter lighter nights and things like that so there's not this kind of huge jump whereas I do think that the transition from summer to autumn can feel quite
drastic yeah it's more noticeable because I know like in the summer you could be looking outside and be like oh darker earlier whereas i don't notice it so much the other way around
yeah definitely it's it does feel like it happens quite quickly and i think people that you know even if you don't sort of recognize autumn equinox as such most people will notice the the change in season the change in weather the change in light and dark because that impacts us you know when you're getting up and going to work in the morning or you're going out to walk the dog it'll be like oh it's you know it's been light but now it's still dark it's just things like that that we that we pick up on yeah
