Today we're chatting with Lily Farr, a content creator who shares her love of vintage and secondhand fashion online. Lily is a recent Emerson College grad who just made the move to New York City, where she works in fashion retail, including at 9th Street Vintage.
Lily grew up in Pennsylvania, and her love of thrifting started during the pandemic boom, when she discovered a love for true vintage. In Boston, Lily dove into the vintage market scene, befriended local dealers, and spent two years working at We Thieves vintage shop in Cambridge.
We get into it all on today's episode: what working behind the shop counter teaches you that collecting doesn't, the truth about vintage Levi's and sizing, to the ways buyers haggle at secondhand shops.
Lily also shares about her love of 1940s through 60s Americana and workwear, and her style inspirations from Japanese Ametora, plus her obsession with graphic tees. We dig into Denim Dungaree, the Japanese kids' brand she discovered this year, and why she's shopping secondhand using Japanese proxy sites for the first time this year. Plus, her favorite New York vintage spots, her finds from the recent Brooklyn edition Threadbare show, and the grails still on her wish list. Let's dive right in!
