Imagine that little caterpillar inching along the ground.
It's limited.
It's earthbound.
It isn't likely dreaming of flying.
It is just living the only life it knows.
But then it enters a cocoon and inside something transformational is happening.
It's becoming something new.
And when it emerges, it is no longer crawling on the earth.
It is flying in the heavens.
Now, the caterpillar did not become a flying butterfly by trying to crawl faster, trying to crawl higher and stronger.
It wasn't because Papa Caterpillar or Papa Butterfly hovered over it saying, just jump off this branch and see if you can fly.
No, it needed a transformational change, a sea change, you could say, in its mode of existence.
Well, this is a little bit like what happens with you and I when we believe in Christ.
A little bit.
Yeah, just a little bit.
It's not a perfect analogy because the caterpillar to a butterfly is actually a natural biological process, metamorphosis.
But what we are talking about today is a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit within us.
He hasn't changed our outward form yet, but He does give us a new life.
He is the Spirit of life, and He changes us from the inside out.
And we are going to see a similar sea change in righteousness today.
We want to be righteous.
Of course we do.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
We want that blessing.
