International Collaboration in Well P&A

Now through the

IWDC, we had a very, very close relationship with the UK, with Lewis Harper at the Net Zero TC Centre in Aberdeen.

And luckily for us, they had already been working that issue.

They had already identified that problem.

They'd been working on it for at least a year.

And Lewis was kind enough to share with us pretty much everything they had done.

So about a year ago, we got on a plate the new qualification framework that Net Zero had delivered by using the UK-based risk management company, Astromar.

That framework is actually available on the Net Zero website.

So anybody can go in and take a look at it.

The initial framework model is based on qualifying barrier materials.

That framework could easily be adapted to qualify alternative other types of technology, but right now the focus is on barrier materials.

so over the last 18 months we have been working to demonstrate that the framework is applicable usable here in Norway that it can be used to qualify solutions for use on the Norwegian continental shelf and to look at what else is necessary to be able to not only qualify an individual barrier solution but how do you then demonstrate that if you plug a well using those solutions, that the full holistic P&A design is also good enough.

And we've worked very closely with the regulator here in Norway, Haftil, to demonstrate that yes, you can use the framework here in Norway to qualify, but you also need to address holistic risk.

So if we are to move forward with the GRAPA project, I think our vision is that having proven the framework is compliant here in Norway, we need to start using it.

We need to start actually qualifying solutions here in Norway.

And we also need to develop and roll out some kind of holistic risk assessment process tool that will enable operators to be able to demonstrate that a P&A design using new technology alternative solutions does deliver an acceptable holistic risk picture in terms of P&A and therefore meets the expectations of the Norwegian regulations.

So that's our sort of future goal.
