How can railway operators move from reactive maintenance to predictive decision-making? In this episode, Franziska Schneditz-Bolfras explains how infrastructure monitoring provides the foundation for…
There is a lot being monitored all of the time, but it is not that visible for everyone.
So if I now stand next to a railway track, what is happening there that I don't see?
That's a good question because, um, in the last episode, we talked about how our centric infrastructure monitoring system can be of value for our customers, and this is exactly where it can bring value because v- visual inspections will always take place and will always be part of the maintenance management of our customers.
But in the end, monitoring solution provide value by giving you information on the things that we do not see.
So even if nothing looks unusual from the outside, our system is constantly measuring what's happening inside the infrastructure.
So for example, we monitor movements of components, temperatures, and also more dynamic effects like vibrations caused by passing trains, or also small changes in track geometry.
So for example, the vertical displacement of sleepers, we collect this information over time and can then predict how it will change in the future.
So while everything may seem stable from the outside, there is actually a continuous stream of data describing how our assets behave under real operating conditions, especially when a train passes.
And talking about this continuous monitoring of all of the data, so we do not monitor only once.
So the monitoring creates actually the foundation for our holistic approach because it provides continuous data-driven insights of how the asset is actually performing in operation.
So the real value comes from connecting exactly this real-time data with our asset management and maintenance management processes.
So especially for the maintenance processes, the combination with the real-time value can help us to optimize the processes behind.
That's how you move actually from the isolated data points- To a really full 300-degree view of the asset health, and ultimately, to better and more consistent decisions across the entire life cycle.
