Lies.
You are the prize.
No, I am not.
When people become prizes, love becomes a game.
Connection becomes a reward.
And what happens when someone puts in all the hours, all the work that they expected to put in to get their reward and then they don't get it? Who do they blame? Who pays for it? I know it sounds like empowerment.
Oh my God, girls, you're the prize no i am a person and i want to be treated like a person and once we introduce a hierarchy we are also making space for entitlement ownership and disrespect prizes are objects to be won people aren't everybody deserves to be treated like a person who matters in any kind of connection and listen maybe i'm being pedantic but one thing i know is that i like looking at patterns and history and the world has shown me over and over again that language is usually the first step to subjugation.
And I don't want to be subjugated.
You know? Also, what happens when the prize is no longer shiny and exciting? What do we do to old prizes and old rewards? I don't know, food for thought.
Two,
people will understand if you explain.
No is a complete sentence.
This does not mean that I never share my thoughts with the people who matter to me, but I think that there's this expectation, often implicit, that people, especially women, explain themselves because we are trying to seem non-threatening pleasant coming to a decision about who you are what you want where you are going is enough you don't have to actually break it down and justify it to the people around you so that it makes sense to them so that they can understand you and thereby approve of you.
And this does not mean that I often don't have more to say.
I have more to say sometimes.
I want to say it.
But I look at the situation and I'm like, why do I have to expend all this energy? with this person that I have nothing with, no connection.
There's nothing they're giving me.
This is not a symbiotic relationship.
There's no mutualistic symbiosis happening.
So why do I have to do all of this talking and all of this breakdown for this person? And then I realized that it's the wiring, it's the messaging that you've received from a really young age about just incessantly explaining yourself incessantly trying to tell people why i'm breaking it down and writing an essay verbally no if i'm going to write a verbal essay i better be making some sort of money or it has to be advancing my career or my relationship with the person in a way that matters to both of us i'd rather use that energy to make lunch or dinner
