Cardboard ChemistHostMoonhaven MageHostIn fine school spirit, I decided that a great commander would be one of the Learned Wizards.
A commander that I share a name with, another mage, more specifically, the Destined Black Mage.
The deck I am using is called the Dust and Black Mage Mono Black Spellslinger by Tribal Kai.
He has a YouTube channel under the name Tribal Kai and goes into really good explanations of this deck better than I ever could.
So if you ever want to go check out his page, he has a lot of great videos on there about a ton of different commander decks.
This deck is, as the name states, a mono black deck, and it is indeed a wee bit pricey at just about $1100, but hopefully it'll be worth it.
My commander, the destined black mage, is a 3-2 human wizard that costs 1 black mana and 2 colorless mana.
I don't usually lean towards mono black decks, so this is going to be interesting and different for me.
The neat thing about the Destined Black Mage is his several different abilities.
He has Death Touch, which will come in handy when battling the chemist this week with whatever he is cooking.
Another ability the Destined Black Mage has is if I play a black mana and tap him, another target creature I control gains Death Touch until end of turn.
i mean i can think of several different times where this would be useful especially for sneaking in some more damage on my opponent but we will see how this plays during the game the destined black mage last ability is the real kicker though it states that whenever i cast a non-creature spell the destined black mage deals one damage to each opponent if i have a full party then it deals three damage to each opponent instead For those of you who don't know, a party is a term used to describe a group of creatures.
I think it comes from D&D, but anyway, to have a full party in this case, I need to have a wizard, a rogue, and a warrior and a cleric all on the board.
This last ability is definitely what the deck is built around, and it is my number one game plan.
Can you describe that game plan, Mr. Mage? Well, of course I can! Tribal Kai goes into a lot more detail and explains the ins and outs of this deck, but I'm going to do my best for a quick overview.
There aren't as many wizards in the deck, and that's because my commander is a wizard.
And worst case, he'll be in the command zone, so mana willing, I can always pull him out.
