Episode 16: Building Hobbit Decks

And this was my first actual pre-release that I've gone to.

So it was super fun.

Speaking of that, can you tell us what a pre-release actually is?

Yeah.

So a pre-release is where the new sets of Magic are coming out and they essentially come out like a week early.

So you got to get the cards ahead of time.

That's cool.

It's almost like if anybody's ever gone to the bookstores at midnight and they release the new books and you can read them right away.

Same kind of vibe, same kind of idea.

These pre-release, it's also a casual tournament.

And so you're going to build a sealed deck out of six packs and you get one promo card, which is usually like a nice rare.

And then so Magic the Gathering will put together these pre-release kits and they have all the stuff you need to sort of like open and play.

And so it's super fun.

You usually will get six packs, one promo card, dice, tokens and counters.

And then you're going to try and build a 40 card deck to try and win with.

Is this like a type of thing that like you you like have to buy a ticket for or how do you can you just show up?

Yeah.

Good question.

So each store does it a little bit differently.

Usually people in the stores like it when you sign up ahead of time.

So they know headcount and numbers.

And so I like registered early and I think mine was thirty five bucks.

That's not too bad.

It's great.

I mean, a pack of cards is usually at least $5 and you're getting six packs.
