The Milwaukee Brewers enter the 2026 playoffs having won a franchise record 103 regular season games and their 4th straight division championship. This week on Open Record, FOX6's Ted Perry and Sam…
Ted PerryGuestSince Craig Council departed Milwaukee to become the manager of the Chicago Cubs, the Brewers, who, by the way, won 92 in their last season under Craig Council, have won 93 games, 97 games, and now 103 games.
So I feel like, Ted, we have to start this podcast talking about Pat Murphy and the phenomenal job he's done since taking over as manager.

But there is some magical touch and one that he likes to say has nothing to do with.

Are you ready? yeah one of these and i've talked to pat murphy about his spanish skills and he said they're not great no bueno he doesn't really speak spanish so he brought a spanish-speaking coach out with him to make sure the message was heard laura hits the winning uh single to drive in one or two runs whatever it was to beat the cubs and kind of bury the cubs for any division chances and murphy says i have nothing to do with it come on you had something to do with it He just wants to take the attention away from himself, put it on the players when it's good, and when it's bad, he wants to put it on him and shield these guys.
I just feel like we talk about this in sports so much about a manager or a coach having the locker room.
And I don't know, Sam, I don't know about you, but I don't know that I've ever seen a manager have the locker room the way Pat Murphy does.
What is so interesting is that, look, we see more of what happens in the locker room today than we ever have.
they listen to him, it's all eyes on him, and you can understand how quickly that sort of message, mantra could fade away, get a little bit old across a season of 162 games, plus postseason.
But I think it's this unquestioned, undenying belief he has in guys that haven't really done it at this level.
If you look at Lara and all the other rookies that made their debuts this year and continue to contribute, But also in guys that are struggling.
Christian Jelic, who they give the captain to just last week, didn't have his best year.
You know he's having good, honest, almost father-to-son conversations with him behind the doors.
