Guy Mitchell - Del City High School Theatre

So then transition to Dell City.

Yeah.

Also a competitive school.

Yeah.

But obviously, as we're sitting here in the auditorium, embraces the theatrical side as well.

Yeah.

So you've been able to bridge both together.

Yes.

Yeah.

And it's been an interesting process.

You know, when I first started here, we didn't have a competitive speech debate program.

We were more competitive in just the one that plays.

And I got, which is wonderful.

And it, it definitely has its spot, but I kept pushing every so often.

I was like, I would love a speech debate team.

I would love a speech debate class.

And finally in 2019, I got it.

And those kids, I tell you, they, they were loving it.

They were more shy on stage, but in a speech and debate setting, they were the most loud, expressive kids I could ever want.

And we, I mean, first year team in 2019, and we suddenly qualified kids to go to regionals.

We almost had kids qualify to go to the finals for hopefully to go to get a bid to the national tournament.

You know, we had all these great things that it just took time to, you know, lots of structure and scaffolding to get to that point.

You know, and it was I think my favorite part was I had these two boys who did a dramatic scene together.

And it was it was it was it was a pretty heavy scene.

And I warned him when I handed them the script.
