350. The Fifteenth Annual Static Awards (Night Two)

Hello and welcome to night two of the 15th annual Static Awards.

You know, known affectionately among fans as the Statics.

By

fads, by fads you mean us.

No, I mean, no Chris, us and the millions watching at home.

From the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California.

I reckon I'm the biggest fan of the statics.

Yeah, you definitely are.

Maybe.

I think you are.

I love it.

I love the statics too, but

I do think you have just a fractionally more affection for the statics than I do.

Because I've always got that original feeling still in my gut, which is just that it's the most stupid thing we do.

Oh, well, that's not, you know,

it's been 15 years, like... um but like i uh i genuinely feel like a sense of like oh it's it's statics like we we we were planning we were planning a holiday and it was like oh no we can't go that weekend

statics like i just knew like It's that

special week of the year.

We always do something.

Yeah, I mean, I feel like maybe I would get, you know, that old feeling when we're back in the same country and we can sort of do it like, you know, in the same room or stream it or do something a bit more special.

But unfortunately, the last two statics have, I think, have been quite... quite you know so stripped back which is fine but like it is one of those things where

yeah i don't i i find it i find it interesting that you you say that the reason i love it fractionally more is because you still think you still have an uneasy voice thinking it's the stupidest thing we do and your primary complaint is that we can't make more of a bigger deal of

Because that creates more irony.

This is the thing that leaning into that is what makes me feel more comfortable about it.

When we do it like this, it makes me feel like we're treating it really super seriously.

And it is the most self-indulgent thing we do.

Whereas if I do a silly little song and we, you know, we film it and we, you know, we make it, you know, then it's like a joke.

Does that make sense? I guess I do feel less easy about it when we do it like this because it feels like we think it's really serious.

But for anyone who's just joining us on our 350th episode, the 15th annual Static Awards, night two.

To clarify, you should listen to night one first.

We did, what, 15 awards last night? Yeah.

Some of the big winners, The Late Show, The Late Show, and The Late Show.

King of the Hill picked up an award.

Long Story Short got an award.

We gave some stuff out to Night of the Seven Kingdoms, The Pit.

So yeah, it was a good old

fun time.

We gave one of our last negative awards that we even have on this thing

to Wayward.

In fact, is that the last negative award standing? I think it is.

Yeah, I think

that's fair.

And in a

weird way, that one is actually kind of a compliment because it means you could have been good.

Because that award, for those who don't know, is the wasting potential award for a potentially good concept being wasted on poor execution.

So in a way, that one's also sort of a compliment.

Yeah, because if you are joining, basically we go through categories.

Dan has a choice.

I have a choice.

We each say our choice and then we debate and we decide which one's getting the win.
