She just hadn't got there yet.
And this is something we see all the time with children.
A child who isn't talking isn't necessarily a child who has nothing to say.
Sometimes they're still thinking or searching for a word.
They might be working out how they want to phrase something.
They might still be deciding between several ideas.
Sometimes they're still processing the question.
Sometimes they're just slow and not slow in a bad way, just slower than the person they're talking to, particularly when there's an age gap.
Our children are many years younger than us.
We are much faster communicators and that difference can be really difficult to tolerate because the moment of silence tells our brain we need to fill that.
They're not going to answer.
They need my help.
