A small follow-up on our last week's reporting about the change from Taiwan to Chinese Taipei on the platform Global Giving.
That did in fact go into place on June 5th, and frankly, there wasn't a lot of ink spilled over it or hand-wringing about it.
It just sort of happened, and now in the location dropdown, you can no longer find Taiwan globally from any IP anywhere.
And what's more, if you were to search for Global Giving Taiwan, it does show in the metadata, but then you click and it immediately swaps out Taiwan in location as though it never existed.
Unlike the way that, say, Google Maps or Apple Maps or other platforms that deal with, uh, geolocation sensitivity have done this filtered by IP, they have chosen to unilaterally effectively replace Taiwan.
