When fires burn through old burn scars,
So grasses, shrubs, they have a tendency to spread faster, right? Because they're smaller, they ignite faster, and so they move across the landscape faster.
So even though it's suppressible, that creates a problem trying to get around it and in front of it.
So what you're seeing here, the fact that this stringer of pine didn't burn in the previous fire and didn't burn in this fire, speaks to how the wind channels up this drainage.
And that seems to have been the same effect that it saw in Mason Gulch since that stringer is still there.
And that's not an uncommon thing you see as fire moves across the landscape, and that serves as a pretty good seed source for the area around as the landscape recovers post-fire.
