Well, good morning, New Life Church.
You may take a seat.
It's good to be with you this morning.
Just a couple weeks ago, we finished up a family road trip, and on our last night in a hotel, we were given vouchers to the restaurant down in the hotel lobby.
And Leslie and I thought, free date night.
And so we waited for the boys to go to sleep.
We were on the sixth floor, and We waited for them to go to sleep and they all were sleeping.
We confirmed and then we slipped down into the hotel lobby because it's just like living in a big house, right? Not a very big difference.
And we used our vouchers and we people watched in this lobby because the restaurant was there and the hotel check-in desk was there and we just people watched.
And this was a lovely hotel lobby with people coming and going and eventually a young couple, he in a tan suit and she in a simple white wedding dress arrived at the check-in counter.
at the hotel.
And the more we watched, we observed him look at her and her look at him.
And we saw the way he touched her and she touched him, gentle and uncertain, giddy and unfamiliar.
And we realized this is their wedding night, of course.
We had that part figured out.
But this is their first night.
They don't know what they're doing.
They don't know what to do with their hands.
This is their first night together as husband and wife.
And that caused Leslie and I, we're observing, we're watching, and it caused us to remember and reminisce about our wedding and our wedding night.
And observing the beginning of their joy was good for us and reminded us of what is good and beautiful and delightful in the beautiful picture of marriage.
And in that same way, our book this morning does the same thing.
Song of Songs points to the beauty of married romantic love and showcases it to show its intense beauty, its unexpected delight and fierce commitment.
And through the reading of this book, we will be reminded that the gratuitous good of marital intimacy points to delight we can hardly imagine.
