When everything in tech seems to change at once, how do you keep up without feeling behind? In this episode of New Layer, Jasmine and Tanner talk about getting through rapid industry change. They…
No entities detected.
So today I want to kind of pick your brain on this subject of how to deal with change.
Honestly, frankly, I'm scared a lot of the time with some of the change that's happening.
But for you, over the past five years with all of the things that have changed, what have you learned about managing, I don't know, yourself or even your team throughout change?
I've had so many experiences in the past five years, some very intentionally so, but I feel like with my career, when we left off, I was I'm really excited about being at really true product companies and being at companies that were growing and being a head of design and making sure that I was scaling.
The way design leaders, which is my role, were growing their careers was by more.
And since that time, I've really spent different, you know, moments in the past five years of my career looking at different kinds of roles, smaller companies, smaller teams, doing a fractional gig.
And it's really been something where as, as I'm learning about myself and changing and growing, I am also recognizing that things are changing around me and I'm not as in control of, let's just, you know, give an example and say the jobs that are out there.
Um, they're, they're to me for what, you know, a couple of years ago, there were a lot more.
And so, um, I'm, I'm just trying to grow my craft at this point, my craft of being a manager, my craft of being a designer, um, my craft of being a leader and really be, what I've been able to do is kind of just like sit back, not passively, but sit back.
And as the environments are changing with me, I'm able to kind of like, just like ride along with that and make decisions, be intentional when, um, moments come I don't know that's really vague but
no it makes sense something you and I were talking about a little earlier was this idea of kind of kind of like floating down a river or being in a river and just kind of going with the flow
and like being comfortable with with what's going on around you um that I don't know how you do it that sounds hard to me like
And it's, it's a, you said you're afraid or like you, I can't remember the word you use, but like there's, there's some scariness that's going on right now for sure.
Um, you mentioned, we talked about like things like layoffs, but like that's a, I mean, it's happening every week right now.
