And so, you know, when you look down the street, there's a bit of roadworks happening.

Oh, yep.

Unfortunately, being on State Highway 1, we do have that occasionally.

But I do appreciate that because it'll make our roads better for people to come and stop and play.

There's the old corrugated iron

sheep in front of us.

We're standing on the corner.

There's more corrugated iron.

You can see it all around the town.

And Kiri and I are standing on one side of the road.

Across from us, there's a cafe.

So we're looking at the facade.

There's a corrugated iron puppy and a corrugated iron pukiko staring back at us.

I guess like everywhere after COVID, that sort of did hit us a bit.

We did have a few shops that struggled and thankfully pulled through.

We have lost a couple in the last year.

But as you see, we've got the Stoney Creek has just come to Tito.

The Oxford Royal Hotel, which we all love.

But while there's lots of new things to get excited about, the old Oxford Royal Hotel opened 145 years ago in 1881, a sitting empty.

It was a popular stopover for stagecoaches back then as they rolled between Rotorua and Cambridge.

It was even a refuge after the 1886 Tarawera eruption, an iconic landmark.

But it's been shut up since 2012.

Kerry is hopeful it will make a comeback.

Honestly, the whole town is praying we get somebody who wants to come and fix the old girl up because she's what our town was made around, you know.

She's iconic.
