Victoria ZablockiHostSo it's September, which is well known for being the beginning of fall, but it's also the time for seeds.
We celebrate the harvest and the food our farmers gather in the fall, but did you know that it's also the time that many native plants spread their seeds? Back in April, I spent the month talking about pollination and now we're seeing the fruit's of the plant's labor, if you get what I mean.
So my plan this month is to focus on seeds that can be found in nature and how that relates to plant life cycles, how seeds travel, and how animals help disperse seeds.
And what better way to introduce this phenomenon than picture books? To help you, the teacher or homeschool parent, get inspired, I've put together a list of six seed books that provide you pictures and text to discover seeds on a deeper level.
And if you've listened to my other episodes about picture books, I'm sure that you've caught on to the fact that I'm very passionate about teaching science concepts with the help of children's literature.
Research has shown that integrating science and literacy has many benefits, including saving teachers time in their schedule, improved attitudes of children towards science, better overall performance in reading and science, and so many more.
