Could mould be the missing piece behind your unexplained health symptoms? Naturopathic Nutritionist, Mays Al-Ali, joins us to explore mould illness - a complex and often misunderstood condition that…
Mays Al-AliGuestMichelle SanchezHostBut as you say that, that ventilation and not having the windows open, you know, things can fester and grow, can't they? So.

And actually, the hot countries, the coastal countries that have humidity can be the worst.
Yeah, and I think just that, and this is what we hear a lot, is that, you know, you can be okay for a certain period of time and then you throw in some stress, you throw in an infection or a move or whatever, and that's when it can be that extra load on the body.
Something's just sitting there, and then that's when people become really, really ill.
But for anyone who's listening who may not be familiar with mold illness, can you explain in simple terms what we mean by that and what mycotoxins are?

Mold is a type of fungus that plays a natural role in the environment by breaking down organic matter around us.

But the problem happens when it starts to grow indoors where it doesn't belong.

So mold thrives in damp or humid environments, as I said, when it's poorly ventilated, as I said, but also water-damaged buildings.

So you have to be very careful when you see a leak because the mold can be growing where you can't see it, even if the leak gets fixed.

And if you see any discoloration, of course black, but also green, yellowy, you know, any kind of bubbling discoloration, there's a leak there.

And yeah, it can grow behind walls, damp concrete, damp plasterboard, behind wardrobes and cupboards, it loves it in there.

So if you have your bed against the wall, try to have a gap so it's not touching the wall.

Air con units, you know, if there's any built-in air con units, you have to get those cleaned once a year and serviced, because they can be pumping out mold in the air.

Of course, bathroom leaks, and yeah, as I said, sofas, even my leather soft furnishings.
