Noah Springer, president of **Extra Space Storage Inc**. (NYSE: EXR) and its next CEO, spoke to the REIT Report about leadership continuity, fundamentals, and how scale, data, and operational…
Noah SpringerGuestSarah Borson-KitoHostSo Noah, you're a 20-year veteran at Extra Space, and you've worked with a number of previous CEOs.
I'd love to know what you think about the mentoring you've experienced at Extra Space, and how you see the importance of strong continuity and really what that does for the strength of the company.

There's not many people that grow up in a company that for over 20 years are at the same company, continued to advance through the ranks.

With that, I've had the interesting opportunity to work with three different CEOs.

All the CEOs of the company of Extra Space, from Ken Wooley, Spencer Kirk, and most recently, uh, Joe Margolis.

They're very different leaders, different strengths, and I've been able to learn a lot from each one of them.

We've been through COVID, uh, did the Life Storage transaction, grew the company from 1,000 to over 4,400 stores.

And I've been able to have a front row seat to that education has been excellent.

And to have that and be able to sit there and see what's going on, to work with different people, it's one of the best educations you can get.

I have an MBA, I have a undergrad, but that's an education of doing and learning from other leaders is one of the best things you can possibly do.
And what about continuity? How does that underpin the strength of the company?

It means looking at this and saying, "Okay, what do we make sure we don't break while continuing to push on the things harder that we know, uh, where we can build and what we can do," right? We have a, a great culture.
