The most common mistakes mechanics make on customers' cars are due to their humanity, their distractions.

And there are more and more distractions today than there used to be because of the cell phone.

I've got a mechanic back here that wears earbuds all the time, so if somebody calls, he can keep working.

I have tried to get the guys to You know, just leave their phones in their locker or something.

But we changed the oil here at Gateway Ford, even though it is a 2005 Chevrolet.

And then just the other night he calls me and said, Pop-Pop, the oil filter fell off of this thing.

I've talked to a bunch of my mechanics and say, how could this happen? They said, well, the only way that can happen is if like maybe the gasket from the previous oil filter, when they took it off, got stuck up there.

But my service manager said, nope, that wouldn't have happened because with the pressure that's in there, it would have leaked before it got out of the shop.
