My background, I started in 01 shooting for the magazines, writing, shooting, show coverage, tech articles, all that stuff.

How did you step into the magazine world if you've never done the magazine stuff?

I started bartering.

And there was a local magazine chain.

They needed content.

and I needed exposure.

So I pulled them off to the side.

They were Southern Rotter, Northern Rotter, and Eastern Rotter.

They're those three groups, early days.

And I said, listen, I'll give you free tech stories if you give me a vertical third in the back of the book.

And they said, done.

We need paint and body stories.

Paint and body, as you know, if you're a freelancer, that's the hardest tech for magazines to get because it's very specialized.

So I would give them free tech.

Anybody can put shots on and So that got me recognized as a tech writer.

And then I have to name some mentors here.

Jeff Ford, Wayne Cook, and Miles Cook, and Donald Farr.

I'm kind of a Ford guy.

So the Ford group, they embraced me.

They saw how passionate I was about it.

And, you know, I was worthy of their attention.

And they mentored me.

The first digital camera I bought, I bought it from Miles Cook.

And Miles was still around.
